E-bike rider boards bus, gets into vulgar spat with driver: ‘Call the police’
A rider was caught on video in a heated exchange with a bus driver, drawing criticism online over his behaviour.
The clip, shared by Instagram account @sgfollowsall on April 13, shows a man wearing a helmet standing on the road and confronting an elderly bus driver. He is seen gesturing aggressively and pointing at the driver, though what he says is inaudible.
While it is unclear what led to the dispute, the rider appears upset and accuses the driver of cutting into his path. The driver, however, says he did not see him.
The rider then boards the bus and, in an expletive-laden rant, demands the driver admit it was his fault. The driver appears frustrated and asks if he wants to get him into trouble by blocking his bus.
As they argue, a woman can be heard saying in Mandarin: “I want to go home!” She also urges the driver to lock the doors and call the police.
However, the rider tells the woman that her wish to go home is “none of his business” and continues his tirade, insisting the driver follow the rules and call his company to resolve the matter.
He eventually leaves the bus and rides off on what appears to be an e-bike, while the driver can be heard telling a passenger that the rider had braked in front of the bus.
‘Not acceptable’
The video has garnered more than 236,000 views, 2,800 likes and 530 comments, with many criticising the rider’s behaviour.
“Foul mouth! Call the police,” said a netizen.
“Don’t come here and yaya papaya with us Singaporeans, okay! The sheer audacity. Some more, no respect for elders!” another said.
Some also appeared confused about whether e-bikes are allowed on roads.
According to the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) rules and code of conduct, power-assisted bicycles, or e-bikes, are allowed on roads, shared paths and cycling paths, but not on footpaths and pedestrian-only paths.
Others, however, found humour in the way the rider left the scene, having assumed from his helmet that he was riding a motorcycle.
“And then he started cycling and I just laughed,” one user said.
Not many found his anger amusing, though.
“His road rage is not acceptable,” one commenter said. “I hope they catch him and give him a big fine,” another added.
