The police have arrested a 28-year-old Canadian man for his suspected involvement in voluntarily causing hurt and using abusive words towards a police officer, and causing nuisance while drunk at Changi Airport Terminal 1.
The police were alerted to an incident of a man acting drunk and causing a nuisance at the departure area of the airport's Terminal 1 at 9.20am on Oct 5, they said in a press release on Oct 6.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man allegedly hurled vulgarities at the duty auxiliary police officer after being instructed to present and place his boarding pass on top of his passport. Despite multiple requests to stop swearing, the man ignored the instructions and walked away.
When officers from the Airport Police Division arrived and engaged him, the man hurled vulgarities at them, while shoving and scratching one of them, the police said. The officer sustained minor injuries on his arm and was given two days of medical leave.
As a result of his actions, the man was subsequently arrested.
The man is expected to be charged on Oct 7.
The police have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence towards police officers or public servants who are carrying out their duties, they said.
