Cough syrup and sexual enhancement products worth $5,000 seized after police operations in Geylang

Cough syrup and sexual enhancement products valued at close to $5,000 were seized during multi-agency enforcement operations targeting illegal health products and drug-related activities in the vicinity of Geylang.

The police said in a news release on April 2 that the operations were conducted from March 1 to 7. They involved officers from Bedok Police Division, the Criminal Investigation Department, Central Narcotics Bureau, Health Sciences Authority, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, Singapore Customs, Land Transport Authority and Singapore Food Agency.

In total, 10 men and four women aged between 27 and 67 are being investigated for various offences following the week-long crackdown.

Between March 2 and 5, officers seized the unregistered health products, and a 27-year-old man is assisting with investigations for his suspected involvement in their illegal sale and possession of etomidate vaporiser pods.

Separately, a 48-year-old man was arrested for allegedly possessing 560 sticks of duty-unpaid cigarettes.

On March 1, officers also conducted a joint operation against illegal online gambling along Lorong 23 Geylang, where four men aged between 33 and 61 were arrested. Cash amounting to $1,700 and gambling-related items were seized.

A series of operations targeting vice and secret society-related activities resulted in the arrest of a 39-year-old woman for suspected vice-related offences and a 45-year-old man for allegedly being a member of an unlawful society.

On March 4, officers conducted enforcement checks at a massage establishment in the vicinity of Geylang, where a 40-year-old woman was arrested for suspected involvement in vice-related activities.

Singapore Customs also seized 886 sticks of duty-unpaid cigarettes. Twelve men aged between 22 and 43 and three women aged between 21 and 40 were issued composition sums.

On March 6, enforcement operations against illegally modified personal mobility devices and power-assisted bicycles resulted in three men and one woman, aged between 20 and 42, being caught for violating Active Mobility rules. One e-scooter and three power-assisted bicycles were impounded.

On March 7, a joint operation across five hotels in the vicinity of Geylang resulted in the arrest of a 39-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman for suspected drug-related offences.

A 67-year-old man was also arrested for failure to attend in obedience to an order from a public servant. Two others were caught with three vaporisers and are assisting with investigations.

Commanding Officer of Geylang Neighbourhood Police Centre, Superintendent of Police Letts Tan, said police will continue working closely with relevant agencies to clamp down on illegal activities in Geylang and take firm action against offenders.

Members of the public are advised to report those engaging in unlawful activities to the police.
