A video of a Chinese New Year celebration has drawn flak online after attendees were seen flinging yusheng at one another, with netizens calling the behaviour wasteful.

Singaporean realtor Tony Seow posted a video of the celebration on his TikTok account @tonysprop on Feb 11. Another real estate company, Matt Lam Advisory, was tagged in the post's caption. The video has since been taken down.

The 18-second clip shows over 60 people dressed in festive colours crowding around three tables of yusheng, while others stand nearby filming the scene.

The group enthusiastically tosses the yusheng, scattering strands of vegetables across the area. Some land on employees' hair and clothes, while others become entangled in the fairy lights above.

A clump of food is thrown in the direction of the person filming the video, while several attendees grab handfuls of yusheng and launch them at others. Some participants are also seen shielding their heads from the mess.

Stomp has reached out to Tony Seow and Matt Lam Advisory for comment.

Netizens express disapproval

The post garnered over 46,600 views before being taken down, with many netizens expressing disapproval of the behaviour.

"Such action is not acceptable and reflects badly on the organisation," one user said, while others described the actions as "irresponsible" and "immature".

Some pointed out that the incident led to food wastage and urged the group to spare a thought for the cleaners who would have to deal with the mess.

"I hope everyone who wants to enjoy and participate in this yusheng do so with great care and respect for this practice," another commented.
