A video of a young Malaysian worker sharing the contrast in her mood when she is in Singapore and when she crosses the Causeway to return home has resonated with netizens.

TikToker @itchzhaiii’s 37-second clip, captioned, “POV: Work face >>> Home face, tell me I’m not the only one” was shared on April 1.

It begins with her getting off work near what appears to be Buona Vista MRT Station at 6.40pm. “Already drained,” the in-video caption reads as she appears shattered.

She then boards the MRT, looks for a seat, but finds none. She reaches Kranji at about 7.21pm and gets a seat on the bus where she is “dying at the back” due to how shaky it is.

She reaches Woodlands Checkpoint at about 7.35pm with a hint of a smile, which quickly turns into a grin as she crosses the Causeway at 7.40pm.

At 7.47pm, she’s in Malaysia.

“Can’t hide how happy I am,” the subtitles say. There is a spring in her step, and she is beaming as the subtitles announce that she finally reached home at about 7.50pm — 70 minutes after the journey began.

Malaysian netizens found video relatable

The clip has garnered over 199,400 views, 5,700 reactions and 142 comments, with many Malaysian netizens pointing out how relatable the video felt.

“Haha you are definitely not the only one,” said one. “Seriously! Just breathing in the air from Malaysia makes me feel instantly happy,” wrote one TikToker in Chinese.

“A worm at work, a dragon after work,” another quipped, also in Chinese.

Some netizens pointed out that her salary in Singapore dollars is reason enough to smile

“Three times, any face also can change,” said one, alluding to the exchange rate, which is currently RM3.13 to S$1.00.

“Sure happy lah, 1:3,” said another.

“That’s great! A round trip only takes a little over an hour and you can earn three times the salary of a Malaysian worker,” commented a netizen. Itchzhaiii later clarified that the video was recorded on a Sunday evening where there were typically fewer people crossing the Causeway from Singapore.

Many could relate with the happiness she felt as she got closer to home.

“That grin increases as the distance (from home) decreases,” said one commenter. “The home face smile made it worth the watch,” another said.

Some who rode motorbikes across the Causeway also found parallels in their own lives.

“Same, I ride a bike, also like this. After reaching the border, suddenly got energy back,” said one.
