Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Baey Yam Keng was knocked over by a road cyclist during a morning run, sustaining "light abrasions".

In a Facebook post on Nov 25, Mr Baey said he met with a "little accident" while running the day before.

He was jogging along the pavement and needed to cross a one-way road — which usually has light traffic — when he failed to notice a cyclist approaching from his left, despite checking for oncoming vehicles on his right.

Unable to stop in time, he collided with the cyclist and fell, landing on his right knee. The cyclist toppled but did not fall.

'Only superficial'

"To be fair to her, there was a tall bush by the road that blocked her view of me," he wrote, adding that the cyclist was "very apologetic" and he assured her that his injuries were "only superficial".

Mr Baey shared photos showing abrasions on his knee and chest area.

'My phone had it worse'

Although the cyclist had been riding against the flow of traffic, Mr Baey said he accepted that the road was a "quiet" one and she "really couldn't see (him) in advance".

He added that he should have been more careful and checked both directions before crossing the road.

"Sometimes, accidents happen due to lapses of attention or oversights," he wrote, adding that both he and the cyclist had to "bear some responsibility".

"Fortunately I just had light abrasions. My phone had it worse," said Mr Baey.
