67-year-old PAB rider dies in Tampines hit-and-run, car driver arrested
A 35-year-old car driver will be charged on Nov 28 after a hit-and-run accident in Tampines left a 67-year-old power-assisted bicycle (PAB) rider dead.
The police said they were alerted to the accident at the junction of Tampines Avenue 7 and Tampines Street 42 on Nov 24 at around 2.30pm.
The PAB rider was taken to hospital unconscious and later died.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver had allegedly fled the scene without rendering assistance and abandoned his vehicle. He also failed to report the accident within 24 hours and was found to be driving without a valid licence.
The traffic police identified and arrested him on Nov 26 through ground inquiries and police camera footage.
He will be charged with dangerous driving causing death, driving without a valid driving licence, and failing to stop after an accident.
The police reminded all motorists to abide by traffic laws. Those involved in accidents should stop and render assistance, such as calling for an ambulance to ensure timely medical attention for the injured.
"Leaving an accident scene without rendering assistance is a criminal offence," the police added. Firm action will be taken against those who flout traffic laws and endanger the safety of other road users.
