Six people were taken to hospital following a fire at People's Park Complex in Chinatown early on April 21.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire there at about 4.35am.

The fire involved cleaning supplies and equipment in a storage area on Level 6 of the residential and commercial building, said the SCDF, adding that the fire was extinguished using a water jet.

Six people were taken to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In videos circulated on social media platforms X and Xiaohongshu, people can be seen gathering outside the building in the dark as firefighters arrived.

One Xiaohongshu user said she was woken up after 4am to leave her residence on the top floor of the building.
