Welcome to Stomping Ground - a space where Stompers share reflections, personal essays and social commentaries that spark conversation and insight.

An elderly Stomper has noticed a prevalence in Facebook advertisements supposedly offering job opportunities to senior citizens.

He questions why they are allowed on the social media platform to begin with.

Stomper Patrick said: "Every day you see many advertisements on Facebook seeking seniors, retirees or the elderly to come out of their retirement to work in so-called positions that have supposedly been created just for them.

"Click on the 'apply now' button and every one of the advertisements brings you to the same application form asking for name, age and experience.

"A check using ChatGPT provides a very negative reply almost all the time e.g. Be wary, most likely a scam, do not provide personal details, etc.

"So my question is why are all these scamming advertisements permitted on Facebook? Have any seniors who are sincerely looking for a job been scammed so far? Did any of them lose money after applying?

"Your five cents is appreciated. Thank you so much."

According to the police, phishing scams, e-commerce scams, job scams, investment scams and government official impersonation scams were the top five most common scams in the first half of 2025.

The top five scam types with the most losses were investment scams, government official impersonation scams, job scams, phishing scams and insurance service scams.
