Stomper passes driving test -- but e-service glitch leaves him without licence

A man who recently passed his driving test says he feels frustrated and helpless after being unable to obtain his driving license due to a Traffic Police (TP) e-service issue.

"I passed my Class 3 driving test on Oct 24," said Stomper Cannis.

"But when I logged in to the TP e-services website, I couldn't make payment or get my license."

He said he then went back to the driving centre to check if there was a mistake in how his results were entered.

"The tester at the centre double-checked and confirmed my passing result was already in the system. They told me to contact the TP licensing branch," he said.

Cannis said he wrote to the TP licensing branch about the issue and even went down to the TP Headquarters in Ubi to try to resolve it.

"An officer from the licensing branch spoke to me and said they would check with their technical department before getting back to me," he shared.

"I asked if they could process my license since I was already there, but they said that wasn't an option."

Four days later, on Oct 28, the Stomper said he was still unable to make payment due to the technical issue.

"I've already passed my test but I can't legally drive because the e-service is preventing me from getting my license," he said.

"This really makes me wonder if having e-services as the only option for government processes is a good idea.

"Yes, it's convenient. But when the system fails, you're completely helpless. You can't get the help you need."

He added: "Singapore is known for efficiency, especially when it comes to government agencies. But if everything can only be done online, what happens when the system breaks down?

"A simple thing like collecting your driving license becomes a huge problem."
