A woman allegedly armed herself with a knife at an eatery in Velocity @ Novena Square shopping mall and tried to rob a customer.

Lam Hoe Lian, 50, was charged in court on Aug 30 with attempted armed robbery.

The police had been alerted to the case of attempted armed robbery at Han's Cafe, located along Thomson Road, on Aug 29, at around 9.34am.

Lam left empty-handed after intervention by the eatery's staff and before police arrived.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTV footages, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the woman's identity and arrested her within nine hours of the report.

A knife was seized as a case exhibit.

According to The Straits Times, the court ordered Lam to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for an examination. Her case has been adjourned to Sept 13.
