Woman sees man groping buttocks of commuter at Bukit Gombak MRT station, detains him for cops

She was walking down the stairs at Bukit Gombak MRT station when she saw it.

Ms Siti Khadijah Mohammed Anis witnessed a man groping the buttocks of a woman.

She immediately detained the man and informed the station staff. The police were called and the man was arrested for outrage of modesty.

That was on Jan 17.

On April 22, Ms Siti was one of the six members of the public who were presented with the Public Spiritedness Award from the Public Transport Security Command (TransCom) for assisting the police in cases involving voyeurism and outrage of modesty that occurred on public transport.

Another recipient was Mr Kumar Arumugam.

On Nov 24, 2024, Mr Kumar was at Boon Keng MRT station when he heard a commotion outside the female toilet. A woman and her friends informed him that they saw a man peeping over a cubicle inside the female toilet. He detained the man and called the police. The man was arrested for voyeurism.

Also receiving the award was Mr Chng Choon Ming who detained a man who allegedly touched a woman's rear on the train at Bukit Panjang LRT on Nov 4, 2024. Mr Chng alerted the station staff and the police. The man was arrested for outrage of modesty.

In another case, Mr Mohamed Ramadzan was at Tampines MRT station on Dec 2, 2024, when he spotted a man following a woman as she tapped out of the fare gate. The man allegedly slid his phone under the woman's dress while the device was in recording mode.

Mr Mohamed Ramadzan immediately detained the man, alerted the woman and called the police, who arrested the man for voyeurism.

The award recipients also included Mr Kay Eng Kok Wei and Mr Anson Liew Wen Jin, who spotted a man filming a woman's buttocks on the train from Macpherson towards Serangoon on Jan 8. They took a video of the man and confronted him at Serangoon MRT station. The man was arrested for voyeurism.

Also commended were two other members of the public who were presented with letters of appreciation for assisting the police in separate cases of voyeurism.

Mr Lee Shao Wei spotted a man acting suspiciously behind a woman on the escalator at Serangoon MRT station. The man was pointing his phone camera at her. Mr Lee took a photo of the man and informed TransCom officers patrolling at the station. The man was arrested for voyeurism.

A letter of appreciation was also presented to Ms Jessica Seet Li En, who was using the up-riding escalator at Somerset MRT station when she spotted a man standing behind a woman closely and acting suspiciously. When she alerted the woman that the man might have taken photos or videos of her, the man ran down the escalator and fled. Through follow-up investigations, the man was subsequently arrested for voyeurism.

TransCom Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Masagoes Idris Hussain, expressed his appreciation to the award recipients for their public spiritedness and making the public transport network safer.

He said: "The award recipients today are truly commendable. Their bravery, civic mindedness and quick-witted actions aided the police in bringing the suspects to task."
