A woman found what looked like the fried remains of a cockroach among her fried enoki mushrooms from a fried chicken stall in Bugis.

Stomper Kim shared photos of the insect in her food purchased on Nov 28 at around 7pm.

"I ordered a XL fried chicken chop and a serving of fried enoki mushroom from a stall named Chick-it at Bugis Street," recounted the Stomper, who ate the takeaway in her office.

"Halfway through the food, I saw something weird. I looked more closely and found it to be a cockroach – fried."

She said she felt nauseous immediately.

"My appetite was totally gone and I just threw all the food away," said the Stomper.

"It was raining quite heavily. Hence, I didn't return to the stall to complain.

"I swear I will never buy any food items from Bugis Street again."

Based on its social media, Chick-It has been at Bugis Street since July 2015.

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for Chick-It said: "We are truly sorry for the unpleasant experience the customer went through, and we sincerely apologise for the shock and discomfort caused. This is certainly not the experience we want any of our customers to have.

"We are willing to personally reach out to the customer to apologise and are prepared to make things right through full service recovery."

He explained: "On the day before the incident, there had been some renovation and pest management works carried out in the vicinity.

"While regular cleaning was done before operations began, we ask for your understanding that this may have been an unfortunate contributing factor to this isolated incident.

"We fully understand that this is no excuse, and we are very sorry that the customer experienced this distress.

"We have since carried out a thorough cleaning of the stall, strengthened our pest control measures, and reminded all staff to be extra vigilant in our food preparation processes."

The spokesperson said that Chick-It takes the matter very seriously, adding: "We truly appreciate the customer's patience and everyone's understanding, and we remain fully committed to regaining your trust by maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and food safety."
