Woman arrested for attacking 2 others with knife at Upper Serangoon Shopping Centre
A woman, 44, was arrested for attacking two other women with a knife at Upper Serangoon Shopping Centre on Oct 26.
The police said they received a call for assistance at 756 Upper Serangoon Road at about 12.20pm.
The alleged assailant was detained by members of the public. She was subsequently arrested by the police for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
She will also be referred for psychiatric assessment under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act. Under the Act, the police have a duty to apprehend a person believed to be a danger to herself or others, and such danger is reasonably suspected to be attributable to a mental disorder.
A knife was seized as a case exhibit. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had acted alone.
The two victims, aged 36 and 44, sustained injuries during the attack and were conscious when taken to the hospital.
A 59-year-old man who had assisted to detain the alleged assailant sustained minor injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital.
Police investigations are ongoing.
