Woman, 69, found dead in Changi flat: Neighbours noticed smell last week but 'it wasn't that strong at first'

A 69-year-old woman was found dead in her Changi flat on July 2 after neighbours noticed a foul stench that persisted for days and alerted the authorities.
The incident took place at around 6pm at Block 30, New Upper Changi Road, where the woman is believed to have been living alone in a three-room HDB flat.
Mr Hong, 20, a resident in the block, told Shin Min Daily News that several police officers were seen entering the unit.
It was only later that he learnt a body had been discovered inside.
When Shin Min reporters arrived at around 8pm, several police vehicles and a hearse were seen at the foot of the block.
A pungent odour filled the corridor near the unit, and officers were observed taking photographs inside the flat.
Mr Hong said the woman was believed to be living alone, and kept mostly to herself.
"She was rather introverted and didn't interact much with neighbours," he added.
Another neighbour, Ms Liao, 34, who works at a nearby stall, said the unit's windows and doors were usually shut and that she had not been seen in the neighbourhood for some time.
"We started noticing a strange smell last week, but it wasn't that strong at first, so nobody thought much of it," she said.
"In the past few days, it became much stronger. That's probably when someone decided to call the police," she added.
Other neighbours also said they initially assumed the smell came from rotting food.
In response to Shin Min's queries, the Singapore Police Force confirmed the case.
