Woman, 48, arrested for loanshark harassment: 'Next time I come again you see what I do'

A 48-year-old woman has been arrested for her suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the case at Yishun Avenue 4 on Nov 26.

The main gate of a residential unit was locked with a metal chain and a debtor's note was pasted on it.

The note reads: "Owe $ pay $. This is first warning. Next time I come again you see what I do (sic)."

Officers identified the woman and arrested her on Nov 28.

Preliminary investigations revealed that she is allegedly involved in other cases of assisting loansharks by handing over her ATM cards to facilitate unlicensed moneylending activities.

The police also arrested a 30-year-old man who allegedly splashed a residential unit's main gate with red paint and left a debtor's note behind.

The police were alerted to this case at Jurong West Central 1 on Nov 27 at about 7.40pm.

The man was identified and arrested the next day. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is allegedly involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.

The man and woman will be charged in court on Nov 29.

For first-time offenders, the offence of loan shark harassment carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, with a prison term of up to five years and up to six strokes of the cane.
