Woman, 25, arrested for sending debtor's notes, dead scorpion and live spider to Punggol units
A 25-year-old woman has been arrested for her suspected involvement in loanshark harassment at Punggol.
The police said in a statement that they were alerted to two separate cases at two Edgefield Plains flats between March 11 and 12.
In the first case, a parcel containing a debtor's note and a dead scorpion was delivered to a residential unit.
In the second case, a parcel containing a debtor's note and a live spider was delivered to another unit.
The police identified the woman and arrested her on April 2.
Preliminary investigations revealed that she is allegedly involved in at least five cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.
She will be charged in court on April 3 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
For first-time offenders, the offence carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, with up to five years' and up to six strokes of the cane.
Women, however, are exempted from caning.
The police said they have zero tolerance against loanshark harassment activities.
"Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace, and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law," they said.
Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way.
