A window fell three storeys and shattered on the walkway in Ang Mo Kio Central on July. 13.

Sharing photos of the window frame and shattered glass on the ground as well as where it fell from, Stomper Bryan said he saw the fallen window at around 4pm.

The area outside the DBS branch where the window fell was cordoned off.

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for Ang Mo Kio Town Council said it was aware of the fallen window at Block 712A Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.

"We are relieved that no injuries were reported following the incident," said the spokesperson.

"We have promptly referred the matter to the Housing Board for further investigation and necessary action."

Stomp has contacted HDB for more info.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the window came from the office of Hoh Law Corporation.

A spokesperson for the law firm told the Chinese daily that the firm had been operating in the unit for more than three decades and because it was an air-conditioned, the windows had not been opened for many years.

On that day, the office was being renovated, said the spokesperson. Workers were laying the carpet and to alleviate the smell of the glue, they opened the window, which fell off.

A Shin Min reader said her daughter was walking by with a friend when the window dropped in front of them and almost hit them.

The Building and Construction Authority recorded 35 cases of fallen windows in the first 11 months of 2023.

There were no reported injuries in any of these cases.

All windows may detach and fall when their parts become loose or defective over time due to wear and tear. Homeowners and occupiers should check their windows at least once every six months:

If a window falls due to lack of maintenance, the homeowner can be fined up to $10,000, imprisoned for up to one year, or both.

From 2006 to 2023, 406 individuals have been fined and 94 people have been prosecuted for fallen windows.
