A wild boar was hit by a car on the Seletar Expressway on the morning of Jan 23.

Stomper Edgar shared dashcam footage of the accident that took place at 7.49am.

In the video, the animal can be seen in the middle of the three-lane expressway near the Lentor Avenue exit.

As the boar runs towards the road divider, it is hit by a silver Honda Shuttle in the rightmost lane in front of Edgar's vehicle.

A cloud of dust appears at the point of impact and the animal is sent tumbling across two lanes of the road as the Honda slowly comes to a stop.

"The wild boar struggled, but was not seen on the rear dashcam," said the Stomper, who drove around the Honda and resumed his journey.

"Perhaps it ran back into the woods."

Stomp understands the police and the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society were not alerted to the incident.

According to an advisory on the National Parks Board (NParks) website, wild boars are strong animals that can run relatively fast.

"Due to their solid body build, wild boars are considered to be particularly dangerous when involved in car accidents," said NParks, adding that the wild boar population has increased rapidly with a lack of natural predators.

The advisory said that the increase in the population of wild boars may result in a higher frequency of human-wild boar conflict as they wander into parks, public roads and residential areas.

"Although they appear shy, they are still wild animals and are unpredictable in behaviour, which could pose a risk to public safety," said NParks.

Motorists are advised to drive within speed limits and be alert to animals crossing when driving along roads flanked by forested areas.
