Waste materials catch fire at Pioneer warehouse in early morning blaze

A fire broke out at a warehouse early on April 16.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post that it was alerted to the incident at about 6.15am.

The fire involved waste materials inside a warehouse measuring approximately 40m by 20m.

"Firefighters deployed two water jets and a firefighting machine to contain the flames," SCDF said.

The fire was extinguished within an hour, although damping down operations - a process that involves applying water to wet burnt surfaces to prevent any potential rekindling - are being carried out at the affected area.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

According to The Straits Times, the warehouse at the same address had similarly caught fire nearly three years ago, when about 50 SCDF firefighters used water and foam jets to put out a fire at the premises.

No injuries were reported during the June 2022 incident.
