A driver was seen stopping in the middle of a road and opening his car door without checking for traffic.

He also allegedly later blocked Stomper Lim from parking after getting honked at.

Lim said the incident happened at BMW Performance Motors along Alexandra Road on Nov 23 at about 5.30pm.

According to him, the white car had come to a halt near the entrance of a carpark when the driver suddenly opened his door, which Lim said could have resulted in a collision.

"The self-entitled idiot stopped in the middle of the road to open his doors," the Stomper added. "He was unhappy that I honked to warn him that an accident might occur."

Lim also claimed that driver, who had family members with him, later blocked him from parking.

"This is the reason why road rage occurs. He has no sense of safety, parking in the middle of the road to alight passengers. He even had the cheek to berate me afterwards," Lim told Stomp.

"I can't be bothered to entertain his bullying antics. I just hope he learns a lesson – or at least checks before opening his doors next time."

The Stomper subsequently lodged a police report: "I realised that it is actually an offence to open vehicle doors without looking out for traffic."

Under the Road Traffic Act, opening a car door in a manner that endangers other road users can lead to a fine of up to $2,000, a jail term of up to three months, or both. A second or subsequent conviction can result in a fine of up to $5,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.
