Van catches fire along PIE towards Tuas: "I could feel the heat"

A van caught fire along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) towards Tuas earlier this morning (Feb 27) at around 11.30am.

Stomper Abhimanyu said he was on his way to the National University of Singapore (NUS) when he caught sight of the fire.

He told Stomp: "There were two to three people standing outside the car and staring at it.

"Smoke could be seen from far away and the temperature was very high as I could feel the heat when my car passed by the fire.

"It was quite scary."

In response to media queries by Stomp, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a vehicle fire incident along the PIE, before the Clementi Avenue 6 exit.

The fire was extinguished by the SCDF using two compressed air foam backpack and one water jet.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
