The design of the race singlet for the upcoming Garmin Run has a serious flaw, according to a participant.

A line of text on the singlet is upside-down.

The line is "From Singapore to Asia".

"Is this even allowed?" asked Stomper Anonymous, who shared photos of the singlets.

"I think under National Heritage Board, it's illegal to do so to print 'Singapore' upside-down on a running jersey."

It is not illegal. While the National Heritage Board has guidelines for how the image of the Singapore flag can be used, the board does not regulate the use of the word "Singapore".

But that doesn't matter to the Stomper.

He said: "I don't even feel good about wearing it for the event. It seems disrespectful to my own country, Singapore, and Asia.

"They should reprint the singlet and make it up to all the participants."

In response to a Stomp query, a spokesperson for Garmin said: "The upside-down text printed on the Garmin Run singlet is intentional.

"It is designed to be read from the runner's perspective while wearing it."

The Stomper said: "I know the intention. I just feel it is disrespectful.

"Imagine they also print 'China' or even 'America' upside down. Would Americans wear the upside-down 'China' in China and the Chinese wear the upside-down 'America' in America?

"For myself, I feel it's not right, like looking down on my own country."

The race is part of the Garmin Run Asia Series and will be held at the Marina Barrage on Oct 12.
