'Unique' $9 ez-link card that gives you a whole year of free travel on public transport? It's a scam
A Facebook ad purportedly from "EZ-link Singapore" offered a unique $9 card with which you can enjoy a whole year of free public transport in Singapore.
It's a scam.
"We are aware of the recent online phishing scams involving the sale of EZ-Link cards via social media advertisements," said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on social media on Nov 15.
"These scams feature sales of ez-Link cards with attractive deals, such as unlimited public transportation for a small fee. When users click on the ad links, they're directed to phishing websites that request bank details and OTPs (one-time passwords).
"All promotions for EZ-Link cards are conducted only on SimplyGo's website and the social media pages of SimplyGo and EZ-Link.
"SimplyGo has not offered any deals on the sale of EZ-Link cards with free rides."
Both SimplyGo and EZ-Link had earlier warned against the fake social media ads on Oct 8.
