A photo of an unidentified woman was posted on SMRT's official X account on July 27, leaving netizens to speculate how and why.

Stomper Uri sent a screenshot of the post to Stomp.

"Users follow SMRT's X account to get the latest updates on breakdowns," Uri said.

"Followers received an alert at 11.08pm, but this notification was out of the ordinary, as the message contained a single letter 'R'.

"When I clicked on the notification, it directed me to the X post, containing a picture of a South Asian lady. A lot of users in the comments were shocked and asked if their account was hacked.

"If it was just the admin that was maintaining the SMRT account, it would have been very unprofessional to accidentally post such photos. Luckily, it was not an NSFW (not safe for work) photo."

According to The Straits Times, the photo was removed about 10 minutes after being posted.

Netizens on Reddit shared their thoughts on the incident, with one joking: "R for rabak."

Others wondered how the boo-boo happened.

"Here's my guess: I believe the staff made a mistake," one commented. "The staff forgot to switch back to their own account before posting."

Another agreed and said it "happens all the time."

In response to a Stomp query, Ms Margaret Teo, SMRT's group chief communications officer said: "We are aware of an unauthorised post that appeared on our official X account late Sunday night. We have reported the incident to X and are currently investigating this matter."
