Two men arrested for allegedly scribbling graffiti outside Pasir Ris flat
Two men, aged 20 and 21, were arrested for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.
On Sept 23 at about 10.40pm, the police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Pasir Ris Street 51, where the wall in front of the unit had been scribbled with loanshark-related graffiti.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of police camera images, officers from Bedok Police Division, Ang Mo Kio Police Division and the Police Operations Command Centre established the identities of the two men and arrested them the next day.
Preliminary investigations revealed that they are believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment.
A mobile phone and a red marker were seized as case exhibits.
The men will be charged in court on Sept 26 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, up to five years' jail, and caning of up to six strokes.
The police said they have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities and those who vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
Members of the public are also advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way. Anyone with information about loansharking activities can call the police at 999.
