Shellshocked?

It may be the Year of the Snake, but it was another reptile that got the attention of one of Singapore's bestselling author on the first day of Chinese New Year.

Neil Humphreys posted a video of the "most surreal" incident at Buangkok Drive on Jan 29 morning.

The writer of Notes From An Even Smaller Island and 30 other books was on board SBS Transit bus service 102 as it was pulling into a bus stop when the vehicle encountered an animal on the road.

"A turtle was sitting in the bus lane," recounted Humphreys in the online post. "It was gonna be a direct hit!

"The amazing bus driver slowly pulled around the turtle and then without a thought for my own safety (or without waiting to be asked) I leapt from the bus, dashed into the road, picked up the turtle and returned it to Punggol Park.

"Got a 'thank you' from bus driver and thumbs up from the passengers."

The London-born Singapore resident quipped: "Indiana Jones got nothing on me."

One netizen commented: "Great deed you have done! The turtle symbolise longevity! You, the bus driver and passengers will be blessed!"

Referencing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, another joked: "Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello called to say thanks for saving their Chinese cousin. Huat aaah!"

Stomp recently reported that Humphreys ranted online about being asked to give free talks.
