Truck checked at Woodlands Checkpoint found carrying 3 tonnes of illegally imported M'sia fresh produce

About three tonnes of illegally imported vegetables from Malaysia were seized by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) during a during an operation conducted on July 24 and 25. joint operation with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

Jointly conducted by SFA and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), the operation targeted delivery trucks that typically transport produce for direct distribution to local retailers and customers.

ICA officers at Woodlands Checkpoint noticed discrepancies in the consignment of one truck and referred it to SFA for further checks.

SFA found under-declared vegetables, including eggplants, cucumbers and long beans being transported by one importer in the truck.

All the illegally imported produce was seized.

SFA is following up with further investigations and will not hesitate to take enforcement action.

In Singapore, food can only be imported by licensed importers, and every consignment must be declared and accompanied with a valid import permit.

Offenders who illegally import fresh vegetables shall be liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $10,000 and/or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years.
