Trans-Cab 'deeply sorry' after cabby caught smoking and littering while driving on PIE
Trans-Cab has apologised after one of its taxi drivers was caught on camera smoking in his vehicle and littering along the road on July 18.
Stomper Johnny was driving on the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) towards the Central Expressway (CTE) and Seletar Expressway (SLE) when he witnessed the act.
In dashcam footage Johnny sent to Stomp, the taxi driver can be seen smoking out of the window before throwing his cigarette butt onto the road.
"Taxis are public vehicles and smoking in such vehicles is strictly prohibited," Johnny told Stomp.
"While there was no passenger during the incident, I could imagine the discomfort of the next passenger on board."
Text overlaid on the clip reads: "Do you want to know why the cab you took smells so nice?"
Johnny added: "Littering is an offence as well. I strongly urge the taxi company to look into the incident and subject the driver to appropriate actions."
In response to a Stomp query, a Trans-Cab spokesperson said: "Every customer's complaint is investigated and we will not hesitate to discipline errant drivers with proven service lapses.
"We assure you that your complaint and feedback will give us the opportunity to remedy any problem that may exist and help to improve our service further.
"We are deeply sorry about this unpleasant incident experienced with the driver. In this case, we have educated the driver that smoking is not permitted in the vehicle and he shouldn't be throwing the cigarette butt on the road.
"We have also urged him to always maintain the utmost condition of the vehicle before picking up passengers.
"We have filed this case in his service record, and we will continue to monitor the service rendered by the driver.
"We will take further action against him should any similar incident happen again.
"Once again, we extend our apologies on behalf of the driver and we will continue to educate our drivers on the importance of quality service.
"We assure you that we have taken the necessary steps to remedy the situation."
