Thick black smoke seen coming from fire at Blk 29 Telok Blangah Rise

A fire broke out at at Block 29 Telok Blangah Rise this afternoon (March 4).

Stomper Jamunah, a resident at that block heard someone for the opposite block start screaming, "fire, fire, come down from your block" at around 2.20pm.

"We started hurrying down from the block," said Jamunah.

"If not for her and the residents trying to put out the fire, I can't imagine the outcome."

Stomper Aki smelt something like burning rubber before seeing the black smoke.

"We did not know what was the cause of the fire, we just wanted to run for our safety," she said.

"It was very scary and everything happened very fast. 

"Fire engines and police arrived shortly after."

Stomper David saw the smoke rising from Block 29 from Mount Faber.

He then saw Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel arrive within minutes of seeing the smoke.

An SCDF spokesperson informed Stomp that they received a call regarding the fire at 2.29pm.

Three fire engines and two support vehicles were dispatched to the scene within seven minutes.

The fire involved discarded rubbish at the stairwell and was extinguished within 15 minutes.

At time of publishing, SCDF officers were still at the scene.
