Teen arrested for armed robbery at Tampines convenience store, cigarettes and $30 in coins recovered
A 15-year-old teenager was arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of armed robbery.
The police said in a statement that they were alerted to the incident on Monday (Sept 18) at 5.36am at a convenience store along Tampines Central 8.
Preliminary investigations revealed the teen had allegedly robbed the victim with a knife and demanded they hand over $827 in cash and $181.20 worth of cigarettes.
Officers identified the teenager and arrested him within 10 hours of the report.
The stolen cigarettes and $30 in coins were recovered.
The teen will be charged in court on Wednesday (Sept 20) with armed robbery.
The offence carries a jail term of between three and 14 years, and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
The police said they will spare no effort to arrest those who commit violent crimes.
When confronted with a robbery, members of the public are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call for the police as soon as possible.
