Tada driver given warning after allegedly threatening passenger, charging for trip not taken
A passenger said he was threatened by a Tada driver who insisted he cancel a ride that the driver claimed to have accepted by mistake.
Stomper John shared that the incident happened when he booked a ride from Temasek Boulevard to Choa Chu Kang on July 31 at around 6.30pm.
He shared: "The driver accepted my ride and shortly after, called me to say he had accepted it by accident and wanted me to cancel.
"But if I cancelled, there would be a penalty. I told him I didn't want to be penalised since I wasn't at fault.
"I even sent him a screenshot showing the penalty message."
In screenshots shared by the Stomper, the app stated that the passenger would incur a $2.50 penalty for cancelling.
John said the driver continued to press him to cancel and told him he had another passenger.
"Then, after multiple times of insisting I cancel the ride, he slipped and said 'my rice bowl bro'," he said.
"He also had not moved from his initial position, which meant that he may have been lying about having another passenger.
"I was growing impatient and booked another ride from Gojek.
"After half an hour, my Gojek had already picked me up when the driver messaged again, saying he would still come.
The Stomper claimed the driver asked him again to cancel the ride and threatened to show up at his pick-up point, pretend to start the trip, and then end it immediately so that John would be charged the full fare of $29.78.
"When he arrived at my pick-up point, he started the trip and ended the trip instantaneously and I was charged the full fare," he said.
John told Stomp he has since reported the matter to Tada.
In response to a Stomp query, a Tada spokesperson said: "We take all rider feedback very seriously and have conducted an internal investigation regarding this matter.
"Following our investigation, we have issued a warning to the driver and refunded the rider the full fare of the trip.
"At Tada, we remain committed to ensuring that every ride is safe, fair and reliable for all."
