Stranger walks into Choa Chu Kang home under renovation to use toilet: ‘This is not a public restroom’
A Choa Chu Kang resident was shocked when a stranger entered her family’s home, which was undergoing renovation, and used the toilet without the homeowner’s permission.
The incident happened at about 4pm on Oct 13 in a ground-floor unit where the family was still living despite ongoing kitchen renovation works.
Stomper Anonymous told Stomp that the contractors did not stop the woman from entering as they assumed she lived there.
“The contractors didn’t stop her as they thought she was one of the tenants or homeowners,” she said.
The Stomper’s mother, who was home at the time, heard someone using the kitchen toilet and went to investigate.
To her surprise, an unfamiliar woman emerged.
‘You shouldn’t enter anyone’s house’
In a video shared with Stomp, the woman can be heard apologising and saying she had asked someone for permission to use the toilet.
The voices in the video have been altered to protect the homeowner’s privacy.
“Oh, I’m so sorry. I don’t know, because I asked him,” she said.
The mother pointed out that the person she had approached was a contractor, not the homeowner.
“I know it’s an emergency, but you shouldn’t enter anyone’s house,” she told the woman.
She also explained that the toilet had been sealed off as part of the renovation works to prevent it from getting wet.
The woman replied that she was unfamiliar with the area.
“You cannot do this, it’s like trespassing, you know?” the Stomper’s mother said. “You should ask.”
According to the Stomper, the contractors later said the woman had entered the unit on her own.
While acknowledging that the contractors should have checked who she was, the Stomper felt the woman should not have entered a private home without the homeowner’s permission.
“This is unacceptable,” she said. “Imagine if my mum wasn’t home and she entered the master bedroom and took the things we have?”
The Stomper added that the family had expected curious passers-by to look into their ground-floor unit during the renovation, but not for a stranger to use their toilet.
“This is not a public restroom, and, by the way, there is a nearby petrol station. She could just walk over there,” she said.
The Stomper said she intends to lodge a police report over the incident.
She hoped to remind others that homes undergoing renovation are not open to the public.
“It is not okay to enter someone’s house that is undergoing renovation, what more to use their restroom.”
Similar incidents reported in Woodlands
This is not the first time strangers have reportedly entered homes undergoing renovation without permission.
In September, a video showing strangers allegedly entering a Woodlands flat under renovation without permission went viral. The footage appeared to show two separate incidents involving visitors walking around the unit, with some taking photos and videos.
In October 2025, a Woodlands build-to-order (BTO) homeowner raised concerns after an elderly couple allegedly entered his flat without permission. He also claimed that items, including small tools, went missing from the unit.
