'Red-flag disaster zone': Stomper's mum among S'poreans stuck in flooded Hat Yai
A number of Singaporeans are stuck in Thailand after Hat Yai was declared a disaster zone due to widespread flooding following heavy rains.
Stomper Alvin said his mother and 13 relatives are among them.
"There is no running water or electricity since the blackout at their apartment yesterday (Nov 22)," recounted the Stomper.
"The water level was up to the first floor of their apartment and chest level today as of morning. They had canned food rations given to them as of yesterday."
The family has reached out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok.
"So far, but there is no urgent assistance. We only know they may prepare a lorry to evacuate them, but not sure when. They mentioned that food rations would be provided, but we are unsure when, and they said it would be slower," lamented the Stomper.
"We are worried about their safety right now and whether the food rations can be enough or provided to them on time."
The Stomper said the relatives stuck in Hat Yai include a 75-year-old and a six-year-old.
The Singapore Embassy in Bangkok posted on social media on Nov 22 at 4.34pm: "Hat Yai has been declared a red-flag disaster zone following heavy rainfall and widespread urban flooding.
"The flooding in parts of Hat Yai has led to power disruptions and limited access to food and essential supplies.
"Affected Singaporeans should stay indoors and heed the advice of local authorities."
Stomp has contacted MFA for more info.
