A group of three friends made a short film for FairPrice Group's "A Little Better" Film Contest under the open category - and won the third prize.

Stomper Patrick Ong, who is part of the trio, said: "We wanted to let more people know that there are these categories of people out there and to show more kindness to them."

According to FairPrice Group's website, the contest required food to be an integral part of the film's storyline and the phrase "a little better" was to be incorporated into the film's script.

Contestants were judged on their film's relevance to the theme "A Little Better," their creativity, and technical execution.

The first-prize winner was awarded $7,000 NETS Prepaid Cards and $3,000 FairPrice Group E-Vouchers, while the second-prize winner received $3,000 NETS Prepaid Cards and $2,000 FairPrice Group E-Vouchers.

Patrick and his team, who came in third, snagged $1,000 NETS Prepaid Cards and $1,000 FairPrice Group E-Vouchers.

In their short film titled 'Act of Kindness', an underprivileged man can be seen scavenging through a tray return station for leftover food.

Two other men watch as he transfers the food into containers to bring home. As an act of kindness, they decide to buy and deliver food and water to his home.

"I hope to inspire more people to show kindness to the people around them," Patrick, who acted as the underprivileged man, said.

"My team of three includes my friends Skye Yap, who edited the video and acted as the man who buys items from FairPrice, as well as Benny Tan, the one who bought food from the hawker centre. We're a small group, and it took us one day to make the video."

The competition ran from April 2 to June 2. FairPrice Group announced the winners of the contest on July 2.

When asked how he felt upon learning that his team had won third place, Patrick said: "I was very honoured to hear we won."
