Stomper claims men not working safely on top of sheltered walkway in Teck Whye, town council responds
A man expressed his concern for the safety of construction workers at Block 8 Teck Whye Avenue.
Stomper Anonymous shared his thoughts after spotting men standing on top of two different sheltered walkway roofs.
He first saw a worker in an orange shirt standing on a rooftop seemingly without a harness on June 14.
Later on June 30, he saw another man walking on another rooftop, again without visible safety equipment.
The Stomper admitted to worrying for the workers' safety and said: "I'm puzzled as to why their supervisor or manager did not implement fall prevention measures.
"I don't think construction workers in Singapore have safe workplaces. It's good to explore why these town council projects don't have control over safety."
In response to a Stomp query, the Chua Chu Kang Town Council said it conducts regular safety briefings, checks and site inspections across all construction sites to ensure ongoing compliance with safety standards.
The spokesperson said: "During these routine checks, we were satisfied that safety procedures were being properly followed.
"The town council has also reviewed the matter with the contractor and has been further assured that, during the roof works, workers were equipped with the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times."
The PPE included safety harnesses, which were securely anchored to fixed points.

"These measures are consistent with standard safety protocols for work carried out at the height of the low linkway at this block," said the spokesperson.
As the first phase of the roof works has been completed, there are currently no ongoing works at roof level.
Hence, the town council's most recent site inspection focused on ground-level activities, where all required safety procedures were being followed.
Safety checks for roof-level works will continue when the second phase of the project begins.
The town council also thanked the resident for his concern and stated they remain committed to maintaining a safe environment for both workers and residents.
