Stomper gets SMS to pay ERP fees within 24 hours, but there's one problem: 'I don't drive'
Yes, it's a scam.
A Stomper who received an SMS to pay Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) fees within 24 hours wants to warn others about it.
Stomper Wong shared a screenshot of the message purportedly from One Motoring, which is under the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
The message said: "OneMotoring reminds you: You have not paid ERP fees. Please complete payment within 24 hours."
This was followed by a link.
"I don't drive, so the message has no effect on me," said the Stomper.
"In case there are people who drive and receive such messages, they may unknowingly reply to the message or copy the link on the browser.
"Scammers are constantly evolving their tactics, crafting messages that appear convincing."
LTA also posted a scam alert on social media on Dec 3 to warn the public about such messages.
"We are aware of a phishing scam asking recipients to pay their ERP charges through a link in the message," said the agency.
"This message was not sent by us. LTA does not send any SMS with links to the public to make payment. All SMS from LTA are sent from a single 'gov.sg' SMS Sender ID."
