Filthy bicycle parking area at Yishun MRT station 'suddenly becomes clean': Passer-by

Original article:

A Stomper is frustrated after multiple attempts to bring attention to a 'very dirty' sheltered bicycle parking area near Yishun MRT station.

Stomper Dark Missions shared photos of the area between Exit A and Exit D, showing accumulated litter, dirt and debris.

"I reported the issue via the OneService app in December 2024 and January 2025, and the National Environment Agency (NEA) responded that it falls under SMRT's purview," said the Stomper.

However, when the Stomper reached out to SMRT, he was told the responsibility lies with Northpoint City.

"When I contacted Northpoint City, they then replied that the area is under the Land Transport Authority (LTA)," the Stomper said.

"Is anyone maintaining the area?"

On Mar 4, the Stomper updated Stomp and said the area had been cleared, though he was unsure which agency was responsible for it.

"Despite the area finally being cleaned up, I'm puzzled by the 'pushing' by different agencies over who's responsible for the area's cleaning maintenance," he said.

Cyclists who frequently use this parking space should take responsibility and properly dispose of their trash.

Under the Environmental Public Health Act, any individual committing a littering offence is liable to a court fine of up to $2,000 for a first conviction, $4,000 for a second conviction, and $10,000 for subsequent convictions.
