Stomper complains streamers showing their ‘big assets’ not dressed decently, Shopee says it’s within guidelines
A Shopee user complained that two women were not “dressed decently” during their livestreams, but the e-commerce platform told Stomp that it was within guidelines.
Stomper May shared screenshots showing the live streamers for a flower shop dressed in different cleavage-revealing outfits on March 22.
“I have complained to Shopee a few times,” said May.
“I also posted comments telling the live streamers to dress decently as countless youngsters and children are watching them. The more I complain, the more these live streamers ignore me and continue to show their big assets!”
The Stomper doesn’t want young people to be influenced by live streamers “using their body to attract customers”.
She said: “I have two children, so I understand the influence.”
Despite her complaints, May was frustrated that Shopee did not “tell these sexy live streamers off”.
In response to a Stomp query, a Shopee spokesperson said on March 27 that the platform has reviewed this case and found that the livestream content was within guidelines.
“Nevertheless, we recognise that standards of appropriateness may vary across viewers, and we respect the user’s feedback,” said the spokesperson.
Hence, Shopee has proactively shared the user’s feedback with the streamers and reminded them to continue staying within the guidelines.
The spokesperson added that Shopee is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all users, and the guidelines ensure appropriate conduct and presentation during livestreams.
“Where breaches are identified, we take disciplinary action in accordance with our policies,” said the spokesperson.
Users are also reminded that they can flag livestream content directly during the stream via the ‘Report’ feature on the Shopee app. This will allow Shopee to review the livestream and take appropriate action promptly where necessary.
May told Stomp on March 30 that during a livestream that evening, one of the streamers scolded customers who told her to dress appropriately.
“Even after I followed Shopee’s methods to report these two live streamers, nothing has been done,” lamented the Stomper.
