Stomper applauds crackdown on illegal ride-hailing services: 'They are nuisances'
Welcome to Stomping Ground - a space where Stompers share reflections, personal essays and social commentaries that spark conversation and insight.
A man is fully on board with enforcement actions taken by authorities against illegal ride-hailing services.
He shared his thoughts after the Land Transport Authority (LTA) caught 19 drivers providing illegal ride-hailing services earlier this month.
The drivers, who had provided illegal rides within Singapore and to/from Malaysia, had their vehicles impounded.
Stomper Hasnan said on Aug 15: "I fully support the government's crackdown on these illegal ride-hailing services from Malaysia.
"They are nuisances on our roads, disrespectful and inconsiderate. I also noticed they like to dangerously jump queues at Woodlands Checkpoint, disregarding the safety of other motorists. Some even act as syndicates, allowing fellow ride-hailing drivers to cut the queue by holding back other cars."
Reactions across the border are more mixed, however.
According to The Straits Times, the crackdown has left Malaysian drivers who carpool to work feeling "victimised".
