A man's National Day spirit was dampened after he was served undercooked chicken at a western food stall in Sengkang General Hospital.

Stomper Chia visited the XR Western stall at Koufu food court on Aug 9 and found his fried chicken to have pink, bloodied flesh.

He said: "This is the type of food I got here: half-raw chicken. It really killed my National Day spirit.

"I informed the stall but the young man who prepared my food appeared very casual, as if this happens daily. He wanted to do a new set for me, but no point ya."

In response to a Stomp query, a Koufu spokesperson said on Aug 12: "We have already investigated the matter and have replied directly to the customer via email.

"We have apologised for the unpleasant experience and the lapse in food quality, and have taken action with the stall including a warning and penalty.

"Stricter quality control measures will be implemented, including using a food-grade thermometer and retraining staff on proper food preparation and cooking processes.

"As a gesture of apology, we have offered a full refund to the customer."

Chia confirmed that he has received a refund. He told Stomp on Aug 14: "I accept the refund and do not want to blow this up at the Singapore Food Agency (SFA)'s level.

"In life, always give people a chance."

According to SFA guidelines, cooking your food at high temperatures (above 75°C) helps to kill harmful bacteria in food. Do not cook food partially, as this increases the risk of bacterial growth.

Food such as meat and poultry should be cooked thoroughly, with juices running clear when pricked or sliced. Meat that is pink indicates that it is not cooked thoroughly.
