S'pore Cruise Centre worker who threw passengers' luggage fired, behaviour 'unacceptable': Stomper
Singapore Cruise Centre baggage handlers at HarbourFront were seen throwing passengers' bags on Dec 30 afternoon.
Stomper Adam called it unacceptable.
"While waiting for baggage collection at HarbourFront terminal, we witnessed very unacceptable behaviour from the baggage handlers," recounted the Stomper.
"When they bought up the first trolley of bags, two workers just upended the trolley and spilled all the bags crashing to the ground and then threw them on the conveyor belt right in front of everyone.
"The next trolley was golf clubs and back packs which they swung around with little to no care. When they brought up the next trolley full of bags I videoed his behaviour.
"This is obviously regular and accepted behaviour because two handlers were involved. This behaviour seems to be ingrained in the workers as they continued to do this in front of all the passengers waiting for bags."
The Stomper contacted Singapore Cruise Centre and shared its response:
We sincerely apologise for the unacceptable behaviour you witnessed from our baggage handlers on Dec 30. This does not reflect the professionalism and care we expect from our baggage contractors. We take such matters very seriously, and after a thorough review, we have taken immediate corrective actions, including terminating the services of the porter involved. Please rest assured that we are taking steps to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future. Your feedback, including the video evidence, has been instrumental in addressing this issue swiftly and thoroughly. We greatly appreciate your effort in helping us improve our services. Once again, we extend our sincere apologies for this incident and thank you for bringing it to our attention.
The Stomper told Stomp: "If the actions taken are as they say, I am happy, but will there be a change in the culture that is very obviously ingrained in the Singapore Cruise Centre workers?
"Time will tell if improvements are made as we make frequent trips to Batam."
