A Singtel customer in China was surprised to be charged for incoming calls he didn't answer.

Stomper Kwong shared screenshots of his autoroam bill showing charges for two calls on Dec 26 and a third on Dec 27.

He was charged a total of $23.40 for the three calls from China.

When the Stomper contacted Singtel about the charges, he was told: "AutoRoam Rerouted IDD Calls are incoming calls you received while you were overseas which have been rerouted from Singapore to the country you are in. You will be billed the Singtel IDD rate for such calls."

The Stomper said: "Apparently, you get charged for incoming calls when you are overseas even if you don't answer them.

"Disabling voicemail does not solve it as well. The only way is to disable roaming incoming calls, which might be risky as you will not receive emergency calls as well."

He added: "While the amount is not big, I hope this creates awareness among Singtel users. I can't say about the other telcos."
