Not again? Again?

A Singtel customer was billed for calls he didn't answer while he was in Cambodia, but the telco told Stomp the charges were valid.

Stomper Casey recounted: "My wife and I went to Cambodia in December 2024 for vacation and Singtel did the exact same thing to us, as per your article."

The Stomper was referring the Feb 3 Stomp report where another Singtel customer claimed he was billed for unanswered calls when he was overseas.

"Both my wife did not pick up any voice calls while we were overseas during that period of time. I have also checked my phone's call record which did not register any incoming calls," said the Stomper.

"Singtel said that they were not able to validate the actual number that called. I find it ludicrous. Such a big telco company and your logging record is such that you have no basis to justify why you are charging your customers.

"Attached are snippets of my conversations with Singtel chat over two sessions as I was driving and needed to drop off first chat session."

In response to a Stomp query, a Singtel spokesperson said: "Singtel was billed by the Cambodian operator and the charges are valid.

"But with this feedback, we are investigating further with our overseas partner."

In the Stomp article that the Stomper saw, Singtel advised travellers to review their phone settings to ensure voice mail functions as well as other data related functions are turned off to avoid incurring additional connectivity charges.

In an earlier case where another Singtel customer was billed for calls he did not answer when he was in China, the charges were due to him not deactivating his Live Voicemail function on his iPhone which picked up the calls.
