Singaporean driver dies in New Zealand car crash
An accident between two cars on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island on Monday (Dec 11) left one man dead and two others injured.
According to news website Stuff.co.nz, the crash occurred on a straight stretch of road on State Highway 6, south of the intersection with Shanghai Road, some time after 12pm.
The deceased, who was driving one of the two vehicles involved in the collision, was a man from Singapore, said New Zealand police.
Two others sustained moderate injuries.
The cause of the accident has yet to be ascertained.
Sergeant Andrew Lyes said: "It appears, on the face of it, that it was a head-on [crash], which would indicate one of the vehicles had crossed the centre line.
"We're keeping an open mind while the crash investigation continues."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the man's next of kin, reported The Straits Times.
Shin Min Daily News identified the deceased as Mr Seow Kai Yuan, who graduated in Nanyang Technological University in 2013 after studying Chemistry and Biochemistry. He was previously a chemist at the Singapore branch of pharmaceutical company MSD.
