Shouting match between man and couple on train turns physical, other commuters step in
A fierce quarrel between a man and a couple escalated to a physical confrontation on the train on March 23.
The incident occurred on the Downtown Line at around 7.50pm.
In a video posted to Instagram by Sgfollowsall, a man dressed in black is in a heated verbal exchange with a woman in blue and a man in white next to her.
A commuter in a striped red shirt can be seen attempting to stand in between the couple and the man to break them up.
The woman tries to record the confrontation using her phone, to which the man in black responds in Mandarin: "Are you trying to film me?"
He tries to grab her phone as a commuter attempts to hold the man back.
The woman shouts back at him "You started everything", causing the man to use a Hokkien vulgarity.
He then raises his finger at the woman, which the man in white slaps away.
Retaliating, the man in black tried to punch him, leading the two men to get into a brief altercation.
Following this, another commuter urged them to calm down.
Eventually, another commuter wearing spectacles and a lanyard stepped in, breaking up the scuffle.
In response to a Stomp media query, Mrs Grace Wu, SBS Transit spokesperson, said: "The two men who were involved in the incident alighted at the Fort Canning MRT station.
"Our station staff approached them to offer assistance, but they declined and continued on their way without any further commotion."
