SFA lowers Yishun canteen's hygiene grade to C more than a year after 69 people fell ill eating its food
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has adjusted Yun Wei F&B Management’s food hygiene grade from B to C with effect from Dec 18 due to a food poisoning incident.
The canteen in the industrial park at 5 Yishun Street 23 will be kept under surveillance and the grade will be reviewed in 12 months.
This followed reports of gastroenteritis symptoms by 69 people after they consumed food prepared by Yun Wei on Oct 20, 2023.
One person was hospitalised and has since been discharged.
Several food safety lapses were found on Oct 24, 2023, during a joint investigation at the canteen by the Ministry of Health and SFA, who took enforcement actions, resulting in the lower hygiene grade.
SFA said: "Food operators are reminded to adhere to good food safety practices.
"Good hygiene practices such as the washing of hands before handling food can greatly reduce the incidence of gastroenteritis when adopted by all key stakeholders, including the industry and public."
