The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is looking into a case in which a bat was seen feeding on a bunch of bananas at a fruit stall in Ang Mo Kio.
Stomper JJ shared a video of the incident that occurred at Block 407 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 on Feb 22, at around 12.15am.
He said: "I want to share something interesting that I recently came across.
"Many fruit stall owners leave their fruits hanging outside even after closing and I captured a video of a bat happily feasting on a bunch of bananas. While it's fascinating to see, it also raises some concerns about food hygiene and safety.
"I hope to help raise awareness so that fruit vendors will take precautions to protect their produce."
SFA said in a statement to Stomp that food safety is a joint responsibility.
It added: "While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices. Food operators should also ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained.
Members of the public who have concerns about food safety practices by food operators should report to SFA via the online feedback form.
"SFA takes a serious view towards food safety and will investigate all feedback alleging poor food safety practices. As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained."
