Sex workers still soliciting customers at Orchard Towers, female residents get harassed
Even though it was supposed to undergo a two-year makeover, Orchard Towers apparently remains a hotspot for vice activities.
The number of streetwalkers outside the mall has not only increased, but doubled, reported Shin Min Daily News.
Sexily-dressed women can usually be seen standing outside the building after 9pm, soliciting business from male passers-by, till around 2am or 3am.
Mr Wu, 50, head of the building's managing committee, confirmed the situation and said he has received complaints from residents.
According to the residents, their wives and daughters have been mistaken for prostitutes and gotten harassed by pleasure-seekers.
A Shin Min reporter who visited Orchard Towers at around 11pm one evening saw more than 10 scantily-clad women standing on the streets. Some were alone, while others appeared to be working in groups of two to three.
Most of the women claimed to be from Vietnam, and were aged between their 20s and 40s.
They reportedly approached any male passer-by that made eye contact or lingered, though some seemed to specifically target expats and migrant workers.
A few women also approached the reporter, with one even asking if he wanted sexual services.
