Senja Road resident irked by littering nuisance at staircase landing despite notice, CCTV camera
A resident has expressed frustration and disappointment in persistent littering at a staircase landing at Block 603A Senja Road.
According to Stomper Steven, the situation at the multi-storey carpark has been happening since last year.
He shared a photo of litter – including cigarette packs, a plastic bottle and a drink can – strewn around the staircase landing.
Another picture shows a notice from Holland-Bukit Timah Town Council, urging people to refrain from urinating and defecating in the area.
Steven said: "How would you like to be greeted by this sight in the morning? Or by the sight of a pool of urine? Or just a heavy urine stench?
"This littering nuisance started last year after 7-Eleven occupied the empty premises next to the staircase. At times, there are empty beer cans too.
"I complained once to the town council. A notice was put on the wall to caution culprits.
"Yet the culprit continues to eat, drink and urinate at his whim and fancy at night. This is despite a CCTV camera being installed there all along."
Steven feels that the police should be involved.
In response to a Stomp query, Holland-Bukit Timah Town Council said it has taken "immediate action" to address the situation.
A spokeswoman for the town council added: "Our ongoing efforts include regular inspections, intensified cleaning efforts, and educating the public to maintain cleanliness.
"Additionally, we have requested our cleaners to remain vigilant and proactive.
"We believe that maintaining a clean and healthy environment is a collective responsibility."
Residents are encouraged to report incidents of littering to the town council at 1800 766 9100 (during office hours), the Essential Maintenance Service Unit at 1800 275 5555 (after office hours), or the National Environment Agency (NEA) at 1800 225 5632.
"We will continue to work collaboratively to further improve the situation," said the spokeswoman.
